what is UPSC CSE?

UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION-CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION

It is a central government recruitment exam conducted by union public service commission. Recruitment to various civil services of GOI(Posts included All India services and various posts of Group A, Group B services).

when it will be conducted?
It will be conducted once in every year and will be conducted in three stages(Prelims+Mains+Interview).

It is the most prestigious post in India.

AGE LIMIT & NO OF ATTEMPTS:

General  :  21 to 32 (6 attempts).
OBC :  21 to 35 (9 attempts).
SC/ST  :  21 to 37 (No limit).

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

Candidates should completed at least a bachelor's degree (any) from a recognised university.
The final year students who written the final semester exams can also appearing for UPSC CSE.

PRELIMINARY :

1.It is the qualifying examination for mains. 
2.It is the objective type of exam.      
              For prelims 2 papers:
                               paper 1: General studies
                               paper 2: CSAT
        

PAPER 1                                                                                  

Duration of exam:2 hrs                                                       
Total questions: 100                                                           
Each question carries: 2 marks                                          
Max Marks:200                                                                   
Negative marks:1/3rd                                                         
Cut off marks: General:98-110                                           
                         OBC:90-100
                         SC/ST:77-87

         PAPER 2

 Duration of exam:2 hrs
 Total questions: 80
 Each questions carries: 2.5 marks
 Max Marks: 200
 Negative marks:1/3rd
 Cut off marks: 30%


                              Paper 2 (CSAT) is the qualifying paper for paper 1 (GS).
  • Paper 1 will held in morning session and Paper 2 will held in afternoon session.

MAINS  :

Consist of 9 papers:
  • Qualifying papers:
                   1.PAPER A: 300 Marks
                             Any regional language (which included in the 8th schedule of Indian constitution).
                
                  2.PAPER B : 300 Marks
                            English.

           For qualifying ; Candidates should score 25% in these papers. 
  • PAPER 1 : ESSAY WRITING (250 marks)
                      Should write essays on particular topics.
  • PAPER 2 : GS 1 (250 marks)
                    Indian heritage and culture, History, Geography of the world and Society of India.
  • PAPER 3 : GS 2 (250 marks)
                   Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social justice and International relations.
  • PAPER 4 : GS 3 (250 marks)
                   Technology, Economic developments, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster management.
  • PAPER 5 : GS 4 (250 marks)
                   Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude.
  • PAPER 6 & 7 : Optional papers (Each paper carries 250 marks).

           TOTAL MARKS        :         1750


PERSONALITY ABILITY TEST :


                                      Interview  :   carries 275 marks.

             MAINS+INTERVIEW    :    2025 marks.
